COVID-19 Protective Barriers
In March 2020 the world ended.
In June 2020 I designed and manufactured protective barriers, while working for Terlin Construction. These barriers were created to help businesses re-open during the Covid pandemic. One of the many businesses we worked with was the Rideau Carleton Casino.
The Casino approached us with a problem of re-opening their table games while having a layer of protection between their players and employees.
The frames are made out of a sheet of 1.5” thick MDF with a slot machined the full length. The legs on either end run the full height of the unit and have a slot machined to support the polycarbonate shield. The top and bottom of the frame are also identical to streamline the manufacturing and assembly process. The entire frame is assembled with dowels to hide any fastening in the unit.
Design Constraints:
Security must be able to see all parties hands and cards
The Blackjack and Baccarat tables are curved
Want to Maximize players per table
Keep costs low
Capabilities of the shop (3-axis CNC router, minimal metal work)
No visible seams
Gameplay must not be affected
The curvature of both the Baccarat and Blackjack tables were measured using a laser plotter to allow the shield’s form to mimic the table.
Stanchion dividers were created to separate each player at the table.
